The ‘source’ button that you see in your ‘pages’ area…
…may scare the shit out of you when you click it:
But it’s the key to doing a whole bunch of things on your site, including:
- adding a calendar to your site
- adding videos to your site
- adding a map into your page
- adding a google +1 button
- adding friends to your site
- adding your twitter feed
Here’s a brief explanation of why, for those who are interested. HTML code is what your website is made up of, that’s why when you click the source button you see <p></p><br /> and other funny bits and pieces. This is what your web browser (eg internet explorer, firefox, safari, chrome) uses to understand how to display the information from your site.
Every time you make a change to the text on your page using our toolbar, it makes the change through editing the page HTML. 90% of the time you needn’t worry about what is going on behind that source button but any time you want to put something on your page that isn’t from our toolbar – Like a video or calendar – you’ll need to do so by pasting in some HTML.
It’s nothing to be afraid of. Just make sure that before you go pasting code into your site, you copy and paste all the code that was already there into notepad or TextEdit. This way you can always put it back to the way it was without any hassle.
